This research paper will discuss the practical use of clairvoyance and how clairvoyance is currently understood. In setting an historical framework for the use of clairvoyance, it is necessary to study Spiritualism. The National Spiritualist Association of America defines spiritualism as "the Science, Philosophy and Religion of continuous life based upon the demonstrated fact of communication, by means of mediumship, with those who live in the Spirit World. Spiritualism is a science because it investigates, analyzes and classifies facts and manifestations, demonstrated from the spirit side of life. Spiritualism is a philosophy because it studies the laws of nature both on the seen and unseen of life and bases its conclusion upon present observed facts. It accepts statements of observed facts of past ages and conclusions drawn therefrom, when sustained of observed facts of the present day. Spiritualism is a religion because it strives to understand and to comply with the Physical, Mental, and Spiritual Laws of Nature which are the laws of God." (Fudor, N. Encyclopedia of Psychic Science, N.Y. University, 1966 Page 360.)

Modern spiritualism was first begun in America. As early as 1837, spirits communicated the idea that spiritual communication would be a global experience. The first investigative group was formed in 1851 and was called the New York Circle. This group was formed to study the Fox sisters who had obtained information regarding a murder from rappings. The murder was discovered and the information provided by the Fox sisters was verified as being accurate. However, the source of the Fox sister' information was never determined. (Fudor, N.; Encyclopedia of Psychic Science, 1966; page 362) in 1851, according to the journal Spirit World, there were 100 mediums in New York and approximately 50 to 60 private spiritual circles in Philadelphia.

Spiritual movements existed in England, France, Germany, and Italy. In April 1855, the Yorkshire Spiritual Telegraph was started in England. France saw the advent of animal magnetism and was the middle ground between trance work and Mesmerism. Healers and clairvoyants were reported to have a great deal of animal magnetism and were also reported to be powerful. The Spiritual Movement in Germany did not develop as quickly as the ones in the rest of Europe or the United States. Spiritualist activity in Germany was widely attributed to Alexander Aksakof, Imperial Councilor of Russia. Aksakof was unable to do his work in Russia because of censorship restrictions and, therefore, turned to Germany for an outlet of his work. (Fodor, 1966 page 336.) The publication Psychische Studien was started in 1874 and still exists but under a different title.

Spiritualism in Italy got started in 1855 as a result of the visits by D.D. Homes. These visits resulted in many societies and publications being started in pursuit of studying Spiritualism. Internationally, organizations exist such as the International Congress of Psychical Research, the International Spiritualism Congress, and the International Spiritualist Federation with its headquarters in Paris. It appears that there has been a global interest in Spiritualism as accurately predicted by the spirit mediums of the 1800s in New York. This interest continues to grow in the 1990s with the general public pursuing more information obtained spiritually.

The author of this paper works as a professional clairvoyant and owns a company called FutureNow Clairvoyant Guidance. I first became aware of being clairvoyant as a small child. My mother's sister Emilia, used to take care of me and my brother and sister when mother needed to go somewhere. Emilia had returned to Puerto Rico and was no longer staying with our family. One day I saw my Aunt Emilia walk through the gate of the front yard. She was only in light and not in her normal physical body. Emilia walked right through the wrought iron gate without opening it. The telephone rang and mother's other sister, Sara, gave us the news that Emilia had just died. I explained to my mother what had happened, that Emilia appeared to walk in a form that was recognizable as her but only as a light. Mother explained that I had the gift of being able to see spiritual energy. Her explanation was that Emilia had a last desire to say goodbye, and so came with her soul body to us. I had the ability to see her and this, mother explained, was a great gift.

In the early days of using my clairvoyance, automatic writing was a tool that I used to receive guidance. A question would formulate in my mind and I would write it on a piece of paper prior to going to sleep. Upon awakening, whatever answer was in my mind would be written down. The words seemed to move the pencil without any conscious thought as to what was being written. Only after rereading the entire written answer would it make sense; the answer would come so quickly that I had no idea what was being written. This form of instruction proved to be extremely accurate in guiding others and myself.

In the early morning hours, I learned to practice a form of trance work. My father had a collection of books written in the United States in the 1880s. These books, written by the Ralston Society in Philadelphia, taught various forms of psychic skills. One such practice was reverie in the early morning and dusk hours. These hours were thought to be particularly powerful to practice trance skills because of the general stillness of life. During these reverie hours, it was easier to send thoughts telepathically to someone else and to also receive them.

Another form of clairvoyance I learned was the ability to go to a distant place and see everything about the place and the people there without actually being there. This is now called remote viewing by the parapsychologists today. An example of this remote viewing was done while on vacation in New York. I was camping with a friend in a national forest in New York. While trying to fall asleep, I saw my father in San Diego having chest pains. The picture of his pain was clear, even to the extent of being able to feel his pain. There was an immediate need to communicate with my father. I walked from the campsite to a nearby telephone and immediately called home. My mother told me that father was experiencing chest pains, and she was astonished that I had called at the exact moment he was having this experience. From New York, I called a friend, a cardiologist, to see my father right away. Father recovered because of the speedy action that was taken from New York to San Diego.

In the 1970s, I worked for San Diego County Medical Clinics as a reviewer of county funded programs. A flier came to the office regarding a community-based organization called San Diego Inductive Healing Center that was seeking county monies as part of their funding base. No one in the county office wanted to go to the Open House of the Inductive Healing Center to review it as a recipient for possible county monies because everyone thought it was foolish. I volunteered to go because, from the psychic research books that I had already read, the concept of Inductive Healing sounded very logical. Inductive Healing did not get funded by San Diego County as a participant in county monies, but I became a student at the Center. The study of Inductive Healing is the study of Chinese meridian points used to heal the body without the use of needles. The points on the meridians are activated or calmed by touching the points with one's hands and passing energy through the client's body. The energy used is spiritual energy. This form of healing work opened up my ability to see the physical body as a light field that can be scanned for variations in colors. The various colors of light in the body reveal varying states of wellness or pain. The dark spots in the body are often places where there has been surgery to remove an organ or where a cyst or tumor is forming.

Currently, in my work as a professional clairvoyant, I have the opportunity to work with a large section of the general public. Recently, a woman named Lauren called me because she had lost her house keys to a second home in big Bear Mountains. The home was recently purchased but the keys had been misplaced and another set was not currently available without calling a locksmith. Lauren asked for a reading regarding the keys. I saw the keys in the pocket of her husband's jacket, but as he walked outside down the slope of the property and did some gardening, the keys feel out. The grounds-keeper of the property was called from San Diego to do a search. The keys were found in some underbrush on the side slope of the property.

The opportunity arose to help myself in the search of a dog my husband had bought. Titan, the make pitbull, had gotten out of our fenced yard when a visitor had come to our home and left the front gate open. The neighbors called the police and the Animal Control officers conducted a neighborhood search but were unable to find Titan. We were desperate to find the dog, as he did not have his tag collar on because he had been in the private yard of our property. The next-door neighbor reported seeing Titan struck by a truck in the late hours of the evening. My husband was grief stricken because he was certain Titan was dead, although his body was not found. I did a meditation on Titan Friday afternoon and saw clearly that he would be found on Tuesday at the South County Animal Shelter. My husband went to the various shelters every day: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and then finally gave up hope. He was convinced that our Titan would be dead by now under some bush. I just knew he would be found on Tuesday, be sore but generally be in good health. On Tuesday morning I went to the South County Animal Shelter and walked throughout the many cages looking for Titan. Finally, I saw him curled up on the concrete floor shaking. He saw me and we both were extremely happy.

Titan was taken to the Bonita Pet Hospital and seen by Dr. Thompson. Early evaluations showed that although there were no broken bones, he was obviously experiencing muscle soreness because of the way he was holding his head. With rest, Titan would make a complete recovery. My husband and I were very happy that my psychic abilities helped in not giving up the search for Titan.

In 1992 my clairvoyant practice was being conducted out of a New Age bookstore called Destiny of the Soul located in La Jolla, California over a restaurant named, The Crab Catcher. This area is very beautiful and is a popular tourist location because it overlooks the cliffs of the Pacific Ocean and an area called The Cove. One day an art gallery owner from Prospect Plaza called me and requested my help in finding the husband of one of his clients. An elderly couple had been visiting his art gallery; they were tourists from the Midwest. The wife was looking at paintings while the husband, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease, happen to wander off. The San Diego Police Department had already been called and were unable to find him after several hours of searching. In total despair, the wife was willing to try anything in an attempt to find her husband.

I asked the gallery owner to please put the wife on the phone. I asked her to mentally picture her husband and say his full name. When she did this, I could clearly see that within ten minutes he would be wandering around La Jolla Cove Park but would only be there for a brief period of time. The San Diego Police were quickly dispatched to the park and her husband was found. The lady was so grateful that she made a donation to the City of Hope Hospital in my name. When this donation was made, I received an acknowledgment from the hospital.

Another example of clairvoyant ability was used while driving my car from the University of San Diego Law Library to my home on a Friday evening at about 12:30 a.m. There was a passenger in my VW Bug and we were struck from behind by a drunk driver going 65 miles per hour. Just prior to the accident, I heard a voice say there would be an accident on Pacific Beach Drive and to let go of controlling the car and that my passenger and I would be saved. My car was projected through three different private yards, going through a concrete wall and several fences. The VW then turned 360 degree around and headed back into oncoming traffic. The car caught on to the bumper of a parked car, which stopped the forward projection of the VW. Throughout this whole episode, I saw myself lift up out of my body and was watching the car accident from above the incident as it was happening. The San Diego Police and Fire Departments arrived and took the driver of the other car away in an ambulance; he was very badly hurt. The police and firemen pulled open the doors of the VW so my passenger and I could escape from the car. Neither one of us had a scratch anywhere. The police and firemen had to tow the VW away as it was completely demolished; only the seats we were sitting and remained intact. The officers were in disbelief that no harm had come to either passenger of the VW. One of the police officers said to me, "There must have been an angel protecting you in order for you to walk away from such an accident." I smiled and said that a few minutes before the accident, I telepathically knew it was about to happen and was told through an inner voice to let go, relax, and I would be saved. The police officer just stared at me and said nothing.

The description of different methods of clairvoyance will now be detailed by citing various legal cases as examples. In one case, which is currently on going, a lawyer client has asked for help in an attempt to avoid a three-year legal battle to collect 2.5 million dollars worth of fees. The lawyer has a signed contract with his client to find a buyer for the sale of the client's business. The lawyer has found a ready, willing and able buyer and the deal is about to close for 65 million dollars. The client now feels that paying the lawyer 2.5 million dollars as legal and agent fees is too much. The lawyer, my client, wants to know if there is any way to avoid resolving the matter through the courts.

The method used in this case is to ask the lawyer to mentally picture his client and the business to be purchased. I receive the information that is related to the attorney in three different ways. First, I hear a voice, which tells me which I then repeat to the attorney. This is an example of Automatic Speaking. Secondly, I feel the emotions of the attorney's client. This particular client of the attorney is a self-made millionaire that has no formal education or training. He personally feels very competitive with the attorney, and his style of clothing, manner and presentation are resented. I suggested to the attorney that he tone down his flamboyance. The client needs to be able to relate more on a human level and will spend 2 million dollars fighting not to pay the fees just for his own ego satisfaction. Ultimately, money is not the bottom line here but the feelings of resentment that the client has for the attorney. Thirdly, I see a movie that appears in the field of my inner vision. In this movie I see the buyer of the company opening an escrow account and transferring 2.5 million dollars worth of shares to the attorney without the money having to come directly from the client's checkbook.

While doing this reading, I am listening to a soundtrack in the background that quickly allows my brainwave activity to be lowered into the Theta-Delta ranges. This allows me to quickly go into a trance state without taking 30 to 60 minutes to meditate.

Later, while meditating on this case again, information comes regarding the business practice of the attorney's client. In the meditation, I hear, see and feel that there is a Federal investigation coming from Washington, D.C. regarding money laundering that will virtually bring the potential sale to a standstill because of investigations regarding the current owner of the business. Further, I see that the bank purchasing the money-exchange business is an extremely ethical financial institution and that the deal will collapse if there is any hint of legal problems. All of this information is related to my client, the attorney.

Later, in a dream, it is revealed that my client will be going off into many areas of business that he is not currently involved in. When speaking with my client the next day, I tell him of the dream and he informs me that his client, the business owner, has just fired him and stopped his $15,000 monthly retainer fee. The attorney faxes me documents regarding this case. Upon looking at the documents and handling them, I receive the impression that the attorney will be able to collect his fees by offering to help his former client resolve his problems with the Federal government. The attorney and client reach an agreement that no additional fees will be charged but the one million dollars already owed will be paid up front and the remaining balance of 1.5 million dollars will be paid upon dismissal of the investigation and the close of the sale. Both parties agree and this is a case in which everyone has won and benefited by the use of not only linear thinking but also clairvoyant application to resolving business and legal disputes.

The theoretical basis of clairvoyance as expounded by Fudor in the "Encyclopedia of Psychic Science", and Stanley Krippner in the three volumes of "Advances in Parapsychological Research, Extrasensory Perception" is that there is more to life that which can be seen. "Human Possibilities", "Mind Exploration in the U.S.S.R." and "Eastern Europe" by Stanley Krippner, Ph.D., also discuss consciousness studies and how the mind is the "hidden reserve". Clairvoyance is the ability to obtain information without the use of ordinary knowledge. The U.S.S.R. has been, according to Dr.Krippner, involved in the study of this phenomena to a much greater degree than the western countries. There are various forms of clairvoyance that scientists have attempted to study in the real world and also replicate in the laboratory. Telepathy is the ability to receive another person's thoughts without speaking, writing, or in any other way communicating these thoughts. Clairvoyance or Extrasensory Perception is the ability to foresee events, places, things at a distant location or that have not yet occurred. Dowsing, or using pendulum, is another form of obtaining information without use of ordinary senses. Proscopy is the foretelling of future events and is also known as precognition. PK is referred to as psychokinesis, or the ability to affect biological systems and machines without the use of ordinary muscle movement. All of these phenomena are occurrences that cannot be explained by traditional methods such as laying on of hands and transferring energy to the patient is another use of clairvoyant or spiritual energy.

The book Psychic Exploration by Edgar D. Mitchell cites many examples of precognition or clairvoyance as being a part of all recorded history. He states that different cases of precognition go back to the Greek civilization of 700 B.C. Cases are cited whereby battle strategies were decided by consulting the Delphic oracle. Precognition was used in 400 B.C. The Persians were to attack Athens and 1400 ships were built to cross the Aegean Sea. The Athenians consulted the Delphic oracle and were told, "Everybody has to leave Athens as the city will be sacked; put your trust in walls of wood." Some listened and left while others did not. Those that left were saved and those that stayed died. The naval chief, Themistacles, left and built 300 wooden ships. Themistacles was able to gain victory over the stronger and larger Persian ships by guiding them in the Straits of Salamis. This is an ancient recorded use of precognition for military victory. (Psychic Exploration, 1974, p.157.)

Many researchers such as Stanley Krippner, Ph.D., Fudor, Edgar Mitchell and Alexander Dubrov believe that psychic information often comes to a person that is facing an impending threat or loss. The nature of the loss has to be significant, such as that suffered during divorce, death, or major illness. This may be a leftover ability as suggested by Rhea White that it is a predatory instinct. Man is a member of nature and previously lived in a predatory situation that required us to either hunt or be hunted. It is common knowledge that animals seem to have senses that are keenly developed. These same senses that allowed man to survive in the jungle are still at work today. The jungle has changed; we are no longer chasing wild game in order to have dinner by the fire with family and friends. Now we are required to hunt in an age of communication where resources are controlled by those that write laws and legislate the use of a limited pool of monies.

It may be that the very same set of skills that helped us run from danger before it was on top of us are still working to help us stay one or two steps ahead of life-threatening situations. The executive or the unskilled laborer goes out into a job market today where there is no loyalty to the employee. At any time the employee may be terminated after years of dedicated service or after only months of service. In this age of high change and risk, there is a definite growing interest in psychic information. The author feels that people are once again threatened by loss of family; most marriages end in divorce and loss of economic resources with mass layoffs. The very preservation of the individual is threatened and so telepathic communication is being sent and received as a survival function of the species. The bonds that make life worth living are being dissolved at an accelerated pace. This makes an individual open to precognitive insights that help prepare the individual for impending tragedy. The body seems to have this ability to help save itself. Perhaps what appears abnormal or beyond the range of normal is actually an intelligence that helps preserve our existence.

Businesses are more open than ever to using whatever techniques are necessary to give them the competitive edge. Many businesses still want to keep their use of psychic investigation a secret because of potential ridicule to their corporate image. Businesses do not use the word psychic or clairvoyance but rather intuition. Intuition is now being used to guide the planning and development for many corporations. This is not to the exclusion of numbers and linear reasoning but with the inclusion of intuitive psychic guidance so that a more complete or holistic view can be taken. There has been a shift in consciousness with the recognition by science and business that there is more to life that the seen universe alone. The unseen universes of thought, belief, expectation and consciousness have created a paradigm shift. Clairvoyance, PK, telepathy, and precognition are now being sold every night on cable television for $3.99 per minute. Just dial your telephone and you will be put in touch with a supposed clairvoyant that will guide you through tangled relationships and life struggles. Clairvoyance has met the market places and is being accepted as an additional tool to help survive a very threatening culture. Science on a more serious basis is now studying the effect of PK energy on healing. This can be seen by such books as Healing Words by Larry Dossey, M.D. In the current age of communication, it is the author's belief that clairvoyance, PK, telepathy, and spiritual healing will continue to grow in importance and inclusion with traditional forms of science and business.
